Sector & Spending Review
The government announced in the Spending Review on 20 October 2010 that it will reduce public spending by 19 per cent over the next four years. It also announced a new £100 million transitional fund for the voluntary and community sector, and additional resources to implement the Big Society agenda.
The National Council for Voluntary Organisation's (NCVO) response to measures relating to the voluntary and community sector is here. And the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations' (ACEVO) briefing is here.
Stephen Cook of Third Sector Magazine says the review promises a bigger role for the voluntary and community sector. He also gives a round-up of the news and reaction to the new Transition Fund and the £470m allocated to the sector in his article in the Third Sector Magazine.
The Third Sector Magazine also reports that the Shadow Cabinet Office minister says the Transition Fund won't come close to giving the sector what it needs. More here.
